READ BY LEADER:

So we can be stronger in our praying, please read one verse each until all five hindrances to prayer are read.  These passages help us avoid those things that block prayer.

NOTES:

Read the five verses that tell us what hinders prayer (Portfolio of Scripture, Page 6). Each person read a verse until all are read.

READ BY A VOLUNTEER:

Liskewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered. (1 Peter 3:7)

He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination. (Proverbs 29:9)

If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me (Psalm 66:18)

Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it (Job 35:13)

Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lust (James 4:3)

READ BY LEADER:

Now we can acknowledge to God and each other any of these verses that apply to us (example not treating our spouse as a fellow heir.)

READ BY DESIGNATED NOTE READER:

If you haven't been guilty of things that hinder prayer, rejoice and try to have pity on the rest of us miserable offenders.

NOTES:

Confession of things that hinder prayer.

READ BY LEADER:

Sing a hymn the best you can.

NOTES:

Leader's choice.  Everyone sings hymn together.
